Council is seeking feedback on the proposed road renaming of the eastern section of Bacchus Street, Maddingley to Rosella Close. Bacchus Street, Maddingley is a sealed road up until it intersects with Powlett Street, which does not continue through to the remainder of Bacchus Street. The remaining eastern section is unsealed and blocked by traffic bollards to prevent through traffic to and from Werribee Vale Road. This has caused issues for emergency services, postal services and motorists attempting to use Bacchus Street as a thoroughfare to Werribee Vale Road.
The Rosella is a significant presence in the township of Bacchus Marsh. Its importance is defined by its role as a key species in local biodiversity, its historical impact on the region’s fruit industry, and its status as a high-visibility icon in residential gardens and conservation zones.
Council is seeking community feedback on the proposed road discontinuance before making a decision. Feedback can be provided until Sunday 4 October 2026.
