Proposal to rename Elaine Recreation Reserve to Ron Read Recreation Reserve

Project Overview

Council has received a petition from the community of Elaine to rename the Elaine Recreation Reserve to the Ron Read Recreation Reserve, in commemoration of the late Mr Ron Read.

As part of this process, we are asking the wider community to provide feedback to ascertain whether there is sufficient community support to the proposal to rename the reserve.

Council received a petition from the community of Elaine to rename the Elaine Recreation Reserve to the Ron Read Recreation Reserve, in commemoration of the late Mr Ron Read. 

Mr Read passed away on 6 September 2021 and had a significant history and connection to the reserve, serving as the President of the Elaine Recreation Reserve Community Asset Committee for over 30 years working tirelessly and voluntarily to maintain the reserve for the benefit of the Elaine community. 

As required under Council’s Place Naming Policy and Geographic Names Victoria’s Naming Rules, Council is required to demonstrate there is significant community benefit and support to rename the reserve in memory of Mr Read.
