The Draft Enforcement Policy acknowledges that Council, the community and business have a shared responsibility to protect public health, amenity, community wellbeing and the environment. Council has a responsibility to ensure specific laws and regulations are enforced and undertakes activities to make the community and businesses are aware of their legal requirements.
Council is committed to taking action where required to ensure legal requirements are met and that community and businesses are fully aware of their responsibilities and obligations. Shared responsibility and knowledge leads to increased compliance and reduced enforcement.
The Policy is risk based, commencing with supporting and educating the community to ensure that they are aware of the legislative requirements, through to taking action via the courts for more serious offences.
We are encouraging all of the community to provide their feedback on the draft policy.
