Proposed renaming of Lidgett Street Reserve

Council received a petition from a community member rename Lidgett Street Reserve to Delwyn Leggatt Recreation Reserve, in commemoration of the late Delwyn (Del) Leggatt OAM. As required under Council’s Place Naming Policy and Geographic Names Victoria’s Naming Rules, Council is required to demonstrate there is significant community benefit and support to rename the reserve in memory of Delwyn Leggatt OAM. 

About Delwyn Leggatt OAM

Delwyn Leggatt OAM (23.07.1934 – 04.05.2020) was a committed community focused individual. Delwyn began her service as a Councillor for the Shire of Bacchus Marsh from 1986 to 1994. Following council amalgamations, Delwyn served as a councillor from 1996 to 1999 and was elected as the first Mayor of Moorabool Shire Council from 1996 to 1997.  

Delwyn was also deeply involved in community health and welfare and served as a long-term member and President of the Board at Djerriwarrh Health Service, demonstrating her commitment to local health care services.  Delwyn passed away on 4 May 2020 at the age of 85. Delwyn is remembered as a trailblazer and a compassionate leader whose efforts significantly shaped the Bacchus Marsh community.  

Delwyn’s community contributions continued and were acknowledged with the awarding of a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2004. Delwyn was also named Moorabool Citizen of the Year for her lifelong contributions to the shire in 2018.
