Draft Young Communities Strategy 2024-2028

Project Overview

For the first time, Council has combined the Municipal Early Years Plan and Youth Strategy to develop a fully integrated Young Communities strategy for the 0–25-year age group. This important plan ensures children in the middle years (8-12 years old) are included in Council's strategic planning.

Council would like to invite you to provide feedback on our draft Young Communities Strategy 2024-2028. All feedback will be reviewed and will inform the final strategy which will be presented to Council for endorsement. We encourage you to share your feedback via the Survey found below. The opportunity to provide feedback closes 11:55pm AEST 12 May 2024.

The Young Communities Strategy was developed after community and stakeholder consultation. The themes that emerged from this engagement provided a valuable foundation for the development of the strategy that addresses the needs and aspirations of children and young people 0-25 years (and their families) in our community.

The following themes were identified:

  • Health and Wellbeing Services and Supports

  • Community Engagement and Participation

  • Education and Learning

  • Safety and Inclusion

Specific actions have been developed based on the themes above. In the development of this plan, Council acknowledges its important advocacy and while the strategy will refer to and supports allied health providers and other family and child agencies, these agencies are specifically tasked with providing specialist services and will continue to do so under this strategy.
