Telford Park All-Abilities Sculpture Trail

FAQS

The All-Abilities Sculpture Trail will connect to the beginning of the 1000+ steps trail on the west side of Ramsay Crescent. It will include 7 sculptures positioned at various locations along the paths as well as seating nodes and a look out area. The paths will connect to the 1000+ steps trail and the car parking near the SES and Scouts buildings.

The trail will contain the following elements:

  • An all abilities 1.5-metre-wide 1500 metre long walking path
  • An expansive look out area in Telford Park
  • Seating nodes
  • Trees and shrubs
  • A trailhead connection to the 1000+ steps track
  • Grass areas
  • New carparking spots
  • An upgrade to the Wittick Street carpark entry
  • A boardwalk over wetlands along Halletts Way
  • Picnic tables and seating

There are some elements within the concept plans for the Telford Park All-Abilities Sculpture Trail which cannot be altered due to project budget, building code standards, delivery timeframes and alignment to existing strategies.  One of these components includes the location of the path. The route for the all abilities path has been selected to meet accessibility requirements whilst working with existing land contours.

The first sculpture will be a direct commission working in collaboration with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Corporation, traditional owners of the land in which the sculptural site sits. Further sculptures will be commissioned in line with MSC’s Public Art Policy, currently in development.

The Bald Hill Activation Plan – Feasibility Study was received by Council at the Ordinary Meeting of Council in February 2020. The plan identified a range of potential opportunities for the reserve including Mountain Bike trails, All Abilities and sculptural walking trails, open air events space and a potential restaurant.

The Bald Hill Activation Project currently consists of two separate elements including:

  • The 1000+ Steps (anticipated completion date: July 2022)
  • The Telford Park All-Abilities Sculpture Trail (anticipated completion date: October 2022)

Moorabool Shire Council is reconstructing the existing Lerderderg Track via funding from Regional Development Victoria to form the new 1000+ steps. The project will see the construction of over 1000 steps leading to a lookout on the alignment of the existing Lerderderg Trail. The trail will also be renamed the Bacchus Marsh 1000+ and is the first project to be delivered as part of the larger Bald Hill Activation Project.  Further information can be found here.
